Profile

Donna Wheeler has been a guidebook author, features writer, restaurant and hotel reviewer, commissioning editor and executive producer for Lonely Planet, Hardie Grant Travel, Bradt, My Art Guides, National Geographic Traveler, BBC.com Travel, the Times of London and Telegraph UK, inflight magazines and other outlets.

Once trained as a painter, sculptor and poet, she has a fascination for stories of border zones, the built environment, beauty and the abject, colonialism and neocolonialism, creative and revolutionary lives, the natural world and our place in it, the hypocrisies, illusions and projections of travel, as well as social, art, literary and labour histories.

Her recently established practice seeks to investigate and reimagine how we think about and document place and movement via text, photography, film and performance, working in the intersections of contemporary art, critical theory and literary non-fiction/autofiction.

She continues to be available for travel and arts journalism assignments and content creation, including press trips.

Currently based in Sydney, Donna has lived in Melbourne, rural Ireland, Torino and Paris.

Her projects, including Every Hotel and Things Extra and Other, have received development funding from Creative Victoria and Create NSW.
